Cartography is the art and science of making maps. Magellan & Garmin have a team of cartographers and engineers who develop digital geographic data that can be used in a variety of their products.

Magellen & Garmin's cartography provides enhanced mapping detail that will supplement your unit's existing basemap and improve navigation.

Cartography is what we call converting Paper Maps into digital maps for GPS units that can handle mapping, There is no way that all the Information on the Digital maps are 100%, as new roads are added and some times moved a short distance and road are renamed by local councils, time is needed by the Cartography people have to remap the new information and convert it to Digital format then converted to suit the Brand of GPS you have.

We can tell you that every 18 Months there will be some sort of update for you to buy, these are NOT free.

Below is a list of Cartography Products from the 2 Main GPS that are in use. You can not mix one software product with another GPS type, so if you have a Magellan then use Magellan and the same is for Garmin.
