AUSLIG 1:250 000 scale Australia Series
Geodata Raster 250K provides georeferenced digital images
of AUSLIG's 1:250 000 scale maps covering the whole of
Australia.
The product is ideal to use anywhere a large number
of maps is required, or where storage is limited. By
replacing 531 maps with just two CDs, the maps are conveniently
accessible, compact to store and the images will not
wear out. GEODATA RASTER 250K contains a built-in interface
for viewing the maps on the Windows 95/98/2000/NT4 platform.
The maps can also be used in conjuction with the MapSite
Mapping Software, or the Streets Ahead Mapping Software.
MapSite and Streets Ahead allow for more powerful operations
such as viewing your GPS position on your laptop, making
your own maps, and much more. They make a powerful combination
together with the AUSLIG Australia Series!
The AUSLIG Australia Series software allows the user
to select, view, roam, print and export the raster images.
Select maps from the zoomable map index, the list of
map numbers, the list of map names, through the gazetteer
of geographical location names, or by latitude and longitude.
The map viewer allows you to zoom and pan on the maps
when you roam off a sheet, the map roamer allows you
to follow a feature across map sheets, by loading the
neighbouring map at the map view scale and correct location.
Print the whole map or the currently displayed area,
in which case the coordinates of the top left and bottom
right of the area are also printed. It is easy to export
the map to GeoTIFF, PNG, JPEG or BMP using the export
option. Again you can select either the whole map or
the currently displayed area. The GeoTIFF option keeps
all of the geographical information for the file and
is tailored to the extents of the current display when
a subset is exported. The 531 maps at 1:250 000 scale,
covering all of Australia, are available in digital
raster format.
The images are in 256 colour (8 bit), and contain all
the information found on the paper maps. Most images,
or maps, cover a grid of one degree of latitude by one
and a half degrees of longitude (approximately 110km
x 130km). Some extended sheets cover large areas.
All of the new AUSLIG NATMAPs published up to 31 August
2000 are included on GEODATA RASTER 250K. Each map image
is supplied with all surrounding map information including
legend, scale bar, and technical information about the
map and its projection. The images are geocoded, allowing
the datum and latitude/longitude coordinates to be displayed
for locations on the map. The maps are oriented to 'north
up' with the scan closely parallel to the geographical
grid.
